Development benefits
  • Each successful scoop or stab, however small, builds grip strength, coordination and confidence
  • Whole-hand design means your child can take part in mealtimes before fine motor skills are established
  • A stable, predictable set-up reduces anxiety and sensory overwhelm
  • Reduces mealtime frustration: when the tools work, mealtimes become less stressful for everyone
  • Consistent tools across settings support learning
  • Builds the foundation for knife use, at your child's own pace, with no pressure to progress
How it works

The spoon and fork: The short, contoured shape allows the whole hand to grip, not just the fingers, so the utensils are controllable for children who haven't developed a pincer grip or who find fine motor tasks difficult. Soft-touch zones help the utensil stay in the hand, useful for children with low muscle tone or reduced hand strength.

The suction bowl: Locks to any flat, smooth surface, removing movement so your child's attention can go into the spoon. The oval shape creates a natural scooping zone. When your child is ready, the suction ring removes to reveal a non-slip base, and it can go back on at any time. Progress is never all-or-nothing.

The case: Consistent tools reduce anxiety. The case keeps the same familiar spoon and fork ready for every mealtime setting.

Product details

Your child is beginning to grip and guide. It might be inconsistent. It might take ten attempts to get a spoonful in. That's not failure; that's exactly what progress looks like.

This bundle brings together everything for this stage: cutlery your child can hold with their whole hand, a bowl that stays put, and a case that keeps the same familiar tools with them wherever they eat.

Designed with occupational therapists, it supports children with low muscle tone, dyspraxia, autism, cerebral palsy, sensory differences and motor or coordination delays, at whatever pace is right for them.

What's in the bundle:
• doddl establishing grip spoon and fork: short, contoured handles for a whole-hand grip, with effective stainless steel ends
• doddl 2-piece cutlery case: keeps the spoon and fork clean and familiar at home, school, respite or therapy
• doddl 2-in-1 suction bowl: strong suction that holds firm, even with involuntary movements, converting to a non-slip bowl when your child is ready

Why families supporting children with additional needs choose this bundle:
• Whole-hand grip, so fine finger control isn't needed
• A bowl that stays still, so your child can put all their focus into the spoon
• The bowl's raised back and lower front guide food onto the spoon, so less precision is needed
• The same familiar tools in every setting support routine and reduce anxiety
• Recommended by paediatric occupational therapists
• No timelines. No targets. No pressure.

Ready for this stage if:
• Your child can move food to their mouth
• Your child has some experience of handling cutlery
• Your child's appetite is growing
• Your child is showing signs of wanting to self-feed

As a pediatric feeding therapist, the doddl toddler spoon, fork and knife set is one I recommend for 12 months and up. The stainless steel fork prongs help little ones poke food successfully, the ergonomic handles encourage a proper grip, and the spoon's tapered bowl suits little mouths while holding purees and soups.

“doddl cutlery is perfectly designed for a toddler’s hand and the short handle means it’s easier to control. But the best bit for me are the metal heads which make it easy for baby to scoop and fork food compared to chunky plastic heads which can be frustrating for young ones. One of my recommended weaning essentials!”
