Development benefits

• Supports grip development without needing fine motor control. Every attempt builds strength and confidence
• Reduces gagging risk, which is especially important for children with oral sensory sensitivities
• Each mealtime is a low-pressure chance to practise: no expectations, just opportunities to succeed
• Builds a positive association with food and mealtimes at your child's own pace
• Consistent cutlery across settings reinforces learning and reduces anxiety around unfamiliar tools

How it works

Short handles: The compact length keeps the utensil close to the hand, reducing the lever effect that makes long-handled spoons difficult to control. Particularly helpful for children with low muscle tone or limited wrist strength.

Whole-hand grip:
The contoured shape lets your child grip with their whole hand rather than finger and thumb alone, making self-feeding achievable for children who find the pincer grip difficult.
Soft-touch zones: Gentle grip zones reduce sensory discomfort and help the utensil stay in the hand without effort.

Travel case: Consistent tools support routine. The case keeps the same familiar spoon and fork clean and ready, at home, at school, at therapy, wherever mealtimes happen.

Product details

The short, contoured handles of this cutlery set let your child hold on with their whole hand, so fine finger control isn't needed to get started. For children with low muscle tone, dyspraxia, autism, cerebral palsy or sensory differences, that can be the difference between a spoon that stays on the tray and one that reaches their mouth.

What's included: doddl spoon and fork with high quality plastic handles and utensil ends and a compact travel case.

Why families supporting children with additional needs choose doddl:
• Whole-hand grip, so fine finger control isn't needed
• Short handles reduce the risk of gagging, which matters for children with oral sensory sensitivities
• Soft-touch zones are comfortable to hold and help the spoon stay in the hand
• The travel case keeps the same familiar spoon and fork with your child at home, nursery, school or therapy
• Recommended by paediatric occupational therapists
• No timelines. No targets. No pressure. Works at whatever pace is right for your child

A good place to start if:
• Your child has no experience of using cutlery
• Your child has limited hand-eye coordination
• Your child may need some support to sit at mealtimes
• Your child has involuntary movements

As a pediatric feeding therapist, the doddl toddler spoon, fork and knife set is one I recommend for 12 months and up. The stainless steel fork prongs help little ones poke food successfully, the ergonomic handles encourage a proper grip, and the spoon's tapered bowl suits little mouths while holding purees and soups.

“doddl cutlery is perfectly designed for a toddler’s hand and the short handle means it’s easier to control. But the best bit for me are the metal heads which make it easy for baby to scoop and fork food compared to chunky plastic heads which can be frustrating for young ones. One of my recommended weaning essentials!”
