Development benefits

• Supports grip development without requiring fine motor control— every attempt builds strength and confidence

• Reduces gagging risk, which is especially important for children with oral sensory sensitivities

• Each mealtime is a low-pressure opportunity to practise — no expectations, just chances to succeed

• Builds a positive association with food and mealtimes at your child's own pace

• Consistent cutlery across settings reinforces learning and reduces anxiety around unfamiliar tools

How it works

Short handles: The compact length keeps the utensil close to the hand, reducing the lever effect that makes long-handled spoons difficult to control — particularly helpful for babies and toddlers with low muscle tone or limited wrist strength.

Whole-hand grip: The contoured shape lets your child grip with their whole hand rather than finger and thumb alone. This makes self-feeding achievable for children who struggle with the pincer grip.

Soft-touch zones: Gentle grip zones reduce sensory discomfort and help the utensil stay in the hand without effort.

Travel case: Consistent tools support routine. The case keeps the same familiar spoon and fork clean and ready — at home, at school, at therapy, wherever mealtimes happen.

Product details

For baby's and toddlers who find standard cutlery hard to hold, and have limited hand-eye coordination, the doddl baby spoon and fork is designed to work with them — not against them.

The short, contoured handles let your child use their whole hand rather than relying on fine finger control. For children with low muscle tone, dyspraxia, autism or sensory differences, this makes the difference between a spoon that stays on the tray or table and one that reaches their mouth.

Why families supporting children with additional needs choose doddl:

  • Whole-hand grip means fine finger control isn't required
  • Short handles reduce the risk of gagging — important for children with sensory sensitivities
  • Soft-touch zones reduce sensory discomfort from gripping
  • Recommended by paediatric occupational therapists
  • Consistent cutlery at home and on the go supports routine — the travel case keeps everything familiar wherever you are
  • No timelines. No targets. Works at whatever pace is right for your child

As a pediatric feeding therapist, the doddl toddler spoon, fork and knife set is one I recommend for 12 months and up. The stainless steel fork prongs help little ones poke food successfully, the ergonomic handles encourage a proper grip, and the spoon's tapered bowl suits little mouths while holding purees and soups.

“doddl cutlery is perfectly designed for a toddler’s hand and the short handle means it’s easier to control. But the best bit for me are the metal heads which make it easy for baby to scoop and fork food compared to chunky plastic heads which can be frustrating for young ones. One of my recommended weaning essentials!”
