Pancake ideas for toddlers

We love a good pancake.

Delicious, easy to make, and usually a hit with the whole family, pancakes are also brilliant for baby-led weaning and little toddler hands too.

We thought we’d try out two pancake ideas that are really easy to eat with our ergonomic children’s cutlery, that the little ones will love.

For both, you’ll need to start with a basic pancake.

Basic pancake recipe

100g plain flour
2 large eggs
300ml milk
1 tbsp oil, plus extra for the frying pan

Mix the flour into a bowl and mix in the eggs, milk and a pinch of salt. Whisk to a smooth batter.

Over a medium heat, carefully wipe a frying pan with some oiled kitchen paper. Spoon in enough of the batter to cover the pan and make a thin pancake.

Cook for 1 min on each side and keep them warm in a low oven.

Mouse pancakes

You’ll need:

Basic pancakes
Chocolate spread
Strawberry laces

  • Spread a thin layer of chocolate spread onto half of the pancake.
  • Fold into a half, and then into a quarter.
  • Lay out the chopped fruit to make ears, eyes and a nose for the mouse, and arrange the laces to look like whiskers.

Rainbow caterpillar pancakes

You’ll need:

Basic pancakes
Yellow pepper

  • Spread a thin layer of passata vertically on one third of the pancake.
  • Lay out carrots in a line downwards, and repeat with the pepper and broccoli until around half of the pancake is covered.

  • Roll the pancake like a sausage so that the contents are contained, and cut into small pieces to make a caterpillar shape.
